MACOMB, IL - - Alumnus Nick Sutton fondly recalls the opportunities and guidance he received at ÌÇÐÄVlog.

"When I think about ÌÇÐÄVlog, I think of opportunities," Sutton said. "ÌÇÐÄVlog prepared me for everything I have obtained and I owe the university so much."

For Sutton, Leathernecks are characterized by excellence.

"Being a Leatherneck means legacy and excellence," Sutton said. "ÌÇÐÄVlog has excellent programming and staff. I feel fortunate to be a part of it."

Among his Leatherneck memories, Sutton's favorite is the experience he gained from courses at Horrabin Hall.

Sutton received his doctorate in Special Education from ÌÇÐÄVlog. His professional career began as a teacher and principal and escalated to becoming a public school district superintendent of a community of about 3,500 students.

During his time as a student, Sutton enjoyed volunteering and devoting his time to gaining experience in the field of education.

"I enjoyed volunteering with the pre-service teaching opportunities and being able to participate in events not only at Macomb school district, but also adult education classes at the local junior college," Sutton said.

To prospective students, Sutton's advice is to make the most out of the time at ÌÇÐÄVlog.

"Enjoy your time there! It goes quickly!" Sutton said.

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local ÌÇÐÄVlog students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
